5 Christmas Activities You Can Do with Your Dog

The Christmas season has finally arrived, and we’ve come up with five activities that are sure to put you and your dog in the holiday spirit!

1. Admire the Lights

As a responsible dog owner, there’s a good chance that you regularly take your dog out for walks around the neighborhood. But the added decorations and Christmas lights can transform your everyday walks into wonderful winter outings. The next time you bring Fido out for a stroll, slow down and take in some of the beautiful scenery.  

2. Spread Holiday Cheer

From eggnog to hot cocoa, Christmastime is known for its share of festive drinks. But sugar, milk, and coca can be hazardous to a dog’s health, which may leave you wondering if there’s any way for your dog to enjoy a little Christmas cheer of his own. Of course water is best for canines, but a little treat here and there can be a good thing, especially during the holidays. Consider getting your dog some tea from a canine-friendly company, such as  Woof and Brew, or you can even opt for a Bowser Beer (don’t worry, it’s just broth, but it will leave your dog licking his chops and looking for more).

3. Take Christmas photos

For many, two of the most important aspects of Christmas are family and making memories. If you have a furry family member, what better way is there to hold on to your holiday memories than Christmas photos? You can include your pooch in some professionally taken pics, or you can snap your own and share them on social media. You can even use them to make your own custom Christmas cards!

4. Make Time for Christmas Cookies

One of the best parts of Christmas has to be the delicious holiday cookies (just ask Santa). Unfortunately, most cookies contain ingredients that are harmful to dogs, so you might think this is one holiday tradition that’s exclusive to humans. Thankfully, there are delicious, human-grade cookies for dogs that you can buy premade, and there are also plenty of easy recipes online for cookies that you can bake yourself, like this recipe for peanut butter and pumpkin treats.

5. Hang a Christmas Stocking

Nothing says Christmas like stockings hanging above the chimney, and this is one holiday tradition that works great for people with dogs. You should have no trouble tracking down a stocking for your favorite canine, and you can even get some stockings customized with portraits, paw prints, and/or your pet’s name.  Once your dog’s stocking is hung, you can wait for Santa to stuff it with goodies, or, if you’re the impatient type, you can fill it with toys, treats, and other presents.

Christmas is a time of coming together and sharing special moments with the ones you love. And, with a little imagination, you can find plenty of ways to include your dog in the celebration and create memories that will last a lifetime.
