GENERAL EVENT RULES:
The following rules apply to all CKC-sanctioned events. All individuals or entities that are hosting, co-hosting, or competing in CKC-sanctioned events are required to abide by the current CKC General Rules for Competition, the current CKC Registration Rules, and all other applicable Performance Event Rules. All decisions of CKC Judges or Event Representatives are final in regard to CKC rules and will be enforced. If parties involved feel an unfair or harsh decision was rendered, the decision may be appealed. The appeal must be made within 10 days of the event, in writing, to the CKC Board of Directors.
I. REGISTRATION
A. All dogs competing in sanctioned CKC events must be properly registered with CKC.
B. All owners and handlers participating in CKC-sanctioned or sponsored events must be in good standing with CKC.
II. AGE
A. Dogs must be at least one one year old on the day of the event to compete in all CKC-sanctioned events.
B. Puppies must be at least 4 months old on the day of the event to compete in CKC-sanctioned events that offer a Puppy Class
III. COLLARS
A. In performance events, the only type of collar allowed is a flat, buckle collar made of nylon or leather.
B. In tracking and pulling events, a harness shall be worn.
C. In conformation events, a slip collar appropriate for the breed shall be worn.
IV. LEASHES
A. Dogs that are not entered or competing in an event must be crated or put on a leash directly controlled by the owner or handler.
B. At no time shall a dog be tied or staked out at any CKC event. Tying is defined as a dog being on a line, chain, or leash that is not in the direct control of the owner.
C. While moving a dog from one place to another at CKC events, all dogs must be on a fixed-length leash and in the control of, or under the supervision of, its handler. The distance from the dog to the handler’s hand shall not exceed six feet.
D. The use of Flexi-type and retractable leashes are prohibited within the competition field and surrounding areas.
V. HEALTH
A. In the opinion of the Judge, the dog must appear to be in good health and able to perform the task without injury.
B. No dog that, in the Judge’s opinion, is lame shall be allowed to compete in a CKC event.
C. Dogs with wounds that have not healed entirely by the time of the event shall be considered ineligible for competition.
D. Bitches that are pregnant or showing signs of pregnancy shall not compete in CKC Performance events.
E. Bitches that are in heat, or appear to be attracting more than normal attention from males, will not be allowed to compete in CKC Performance events.
F. Bitches that have whelped recently and are still lactating shall not compete in CKC Performance events.
VI. CONDUCT
A. There shall be no use of profanity or inflammatory statements, suggestions, or actions that, in the opinion of a CKC Judge, are disruptive of a CKC-sanctioned or sponsored event.
B. Alcoholic beverages, firearms, weapons, and all illegal substances are prohibited at all CKC-sanctioned or sponsored events.
C. Persons are required to clean up after their dogs on the event grounds and in and around parking areas.
D. Persons are responsible for the actions of their dogs on the event grounds and parking areas.
E. Dogs that, in the opinion of any CKC Judge or Event Representative, appear to be out of control or dangerously aggressive shall be banned from the event grounds and parking areas.
F. Dogs are not allowed in the competition area prior to the start of an event. Dogs that are not entered and scheduled for an event are not allowed in the competition area.
G. Even if a dog is entered into an event, if in the opinion of the CKC Judge or Event Representative a dog is causing a disturbance or interfering with other dogs that are competing, the handler may be directed to crate the dog or move it away from the competition area. Failure to comply with these requests will result in the owner/handler and his/her dogs being disqualified from the event and banned from the event grounds.
H. The use of any chemical that enhances the performance capabilities of a dog, whether prescribed by a veterinarian or not, is strictly prohibited.
I. Dogs must be allowed to relieve themselves prior to the start of the competition. Dogs marking, urinating, or defecating on the field during competition will be penalized or disqualified.
J. The sale of dogs, puppies, or other animals at CKC-sanctioned events is strictly prohibited.
K. The breeding or insemination of dogs at CKC-sanctioned events is strictly prohibited.
L. The raffling, auctioning, or awarding of a dog or puppy at a sanctioned CKC event is strictly prohibited.
M. Any person who handles or corrects a dog in an abusive manner at or during any CKC-sponsored or sanctioned event shall be banned from the event grounds.
N. A CKC-sanctioned event is meant to be a place where families can come out to enjoy their dogs while competing in a friendly, yet competitive, environment. For this reason, aside from the obvious fact that it is common courtesy, good sportsmanship and fair play is expected and required of all persons entered in, supporting, or spectating at a CKC event. Any person that, in the opinion of a CKC Judge or Event Representative, exhibits poor sportsmanship or attempts to gain an advantage by unethical means, will be disqualified from the event competition, and may be banned from the event grounds.
VII. COMPLAINTS AND APPEALS
A. In the event of inclement weather, CKC-sanctioned events will continue as scheduled provided that, in the opinion of the CKC Judge or Representative, the conditions are not dangerous. If the representative deems the conditions unsafe, the event may be halted until the conditions improve or the remainder of the event may be cancelled with the results standing for all dogs that have completed their tasks. Refunds will not be given for events that were not completed or that were unable to begin.
B. All decisions, points, and opinions of a CKC Judge are final. Competitors, spectators, and any others that openly and continuously dispute the call or decision of a CKC Judge at a sanctioned CKC event will be banned from the event grounds, parking areas, setup areas, and any other areas associated with the event.
C. Competitors disagreeing with a Judge’s interpretation of CKC rules may submit a written statement to the CKC Events Department. The statement should include facts substantial enough for a review to be made. Witnesses are always helpful.
D. If a competitor feels the Judge’s call was not consistent with the calls of other Judges at similar events, a report should be submitted to the CKC Events Department for review.
E. The Judge for a particular event may designate areas from which dogs not directly involved in the competition are prohibited.
